A Day in the Life – Brightlink Head of Law School

By Kayleigh Long

Hi I am Kayleigh, and I am Brightlink’s Head Law School, and this blog is about a typical day for me at Brightlink.

6:30-7:00am: Life with a little one usually means an early start (depending on how the nights sleep went!) and so my mornings often begin with babbles over the baby monitor.

7:00-7:30am: Milk for the little one and coffee for Mummy and Daddy in bed. We’re lucky that ‘Fox’s Socks’ is still a big hit while we both check our schedules for the day.

7:30am: Working through emails. I work a condensed shift pattern meaning that I use some of my early morning and evening to work though my admin, this is often a multi-tasking exercise paired with breakfast and preparing for the day.

8:00am: Time for the nursery run; here’s hoping the London traffic is kind. I am grateful that the flexibility of my work means that I can often have my little one at home with me, but I schedule all meetings and calls for nursery days. Time to wave at every London bus!

8:30am: Final responses to emails upon my return home (alongside another coffee of course).

9:00am: My day will be a mixture of internal and external meetings discussing operations and strategy, as well as working on some bigger projects such as next year’s timetabling and staffing.

12:15pm: A quick bite to eat with something I would have batch-cooked in advance and a walk around the block with my chihuahua Millie.

12:45pm: Back to project planning and communications. As we work remotely, I keep in touch with my colleagues via a mix of Zoom, emails, WhatsApp’s and at times, a lengthy voice-note or two.

4:30pm: A stop to pick up the shopping on the nursery pick-up run; the little one has an insatiable appetite and a minor banana obsession, so I better get the supplies in.

5:00-5:30pm: Time for an early dinner for me and evening supper for the little one before cleaning up. I’ll tend to work from my phone regarding work updates at this point.

5:30-6:00pm: Another quick neighbourhood walk for all if the weather allows

6:00-7:00pm: Quiet evening play with books and building blocks while my partner arrives home from the office

7:00-7:30pm: Thankfully it’s a smooth bedtime run for the little one

7:30-8:00pm: Final catch up on emails and checking my schedule for the morning before the rest of the evening is spent with a good box set.

9:30pm: Pre-bedtime always begins with a book before bed and lights out by ten.
